The Ultimate Guide to Windshield Replacement Aftercare
Once your car windshield replacement has been done, there are a few aftercare procedures you need to adhere to in order to enjoy the long-term positive results and that will maximize your safety.
An hour after your windshield replacement, you will need to:
Wait before you drive the car
A new windshield is held in by a special adhesive, this also creates a strong and waterproof seal. However, this does need sufficient time to set and dry. So if you want the best results, we at Pride Auto Glass recommend that you wait at least 1 hour after the installation before you drive your car. Technicians will also remind you of this after the windshield replacement work has been done.
One to two days after the window replacement process, you will need to:
Clear out the interior and exterior of your vehicle
The seal will still be drying at this point, although it is dry enough that you can drive your car. The last thing you want is anything sticking to the seal. The first day after the replacement, do not put any cover on your vehicle’s exterior. Also, take any clutter off your dashboard, and try not to use a sunshade.
Cracking a window open
Air pressure will place extra stress around your windshield as it continues to dry. Keep it from leaking by rolling down a window at least 1 inch. Do this the first day after the car windshield replacement installation.
Don’t take off the retention tape
Leave the retention tape that holds the windshield in place. It is used to protect the seal from the elements while it’s still drying. While it does look like an eyesore, it is best to leave it on for the first one to two days after the replacement windshield has been installed.
