Steps to Caring for Your Window Tint
Caring for a vehicle that has an auto glass tinting on it is similar to taking care of glass on any other vehicle, however, with a few key differences. If your car has tinted windows or you plan on getting them, make sure you fully understand how to care for tinted windows. Proper care helps it last longer and gives you privacy and reduces the sun glare that you need.
Initial Care After Installation
Before you get your windows tinted, make sure you know how to care for them in the days that follow the installation. As this is the time when you have to take the most, so you do not accidentally damage or even ruin the tinted windows. The most important care instruction is not to lower the windows until 72 hours have passed from the installation of the tint.
That is because the tint has a thin film that comes with an adhesive backing. And as such, it will require a soapy water solution to prevent the adhesive from bonding with the glass straight away. After the application has been performed, there will still be some of the solution left under the film. And as it dries, the tint is held securely in place. Were you to lower your windows before it has had time to dry, the tint could shift.
Similarly, the same can be said about waiting at least 72 hours to clean your windows once the installation is done. As with rolling down your windows, you should not clean the windows until the solution beneath the film has had time to dry out. The windows will be cleaned during the installation process, and any haziness or cloudiness you see after tinting will clear up when the solution has dried.
